Rudder malfunction likely to blame for Taunton plane crash
TAUNTON, Mass. —
Investigators said Monday a rudder malfunction may have been the cause of a small plane crash that killed two people in Taunton.
Authorities said the plane crashed at Taunton Municipal Airport during takeoff shortly after 6 a.m. Sunday.
John Schmouth, 69, of Brockton, and Roland Deslauriers, 61, of Bridgewater, were on board. Schmouth was listed as the pilot.
Investigators said a gust lock was in place during takeoff.
The lock keeps the rudder locked while the plane is on the ground. It should have been disengaged prior to takeoff.
