Pay it Forward: Growing young minds
NAVARRE, Fla. (WEAR) —
For the next eight weeks, WEAR is "Paying it Forward for Education". Hill Kelly Dodge Chrysler Jeep Ram has teamed up with WEAR to give $500 to a teacher with an idea that will help her students. This week, we went to West Navarre Primary.
Emily Simon has her hands full with a classroom full of first graders. She's been looking for ways to make her classroom more fun and had a dream of planting a school garden.
She thought, "How am I going to get the money to have everything I need for it?"
It costs around $500 for all the soil, plants, and everything needed for a garden. She was able to make her dream a reality through Hill Kelly Dodge Chrysler Jeep Ram stepping upand giving her the money for her project.
The garden features plants and vegetables. It even has little lounge chairs, a colorful fence, and stepping stones. While those little hands are playing in the dirt, they are also learning at the same time; math, science, writing.
Simon said, "We were planting and they were able to measure. Getting their hands in alows them to have fun, In elementary school you want make sure school is fun. If they dont like it now, they won't like it later on."
The students love it. The vision is the entire school will be able use the garden throughout the year.
