Venues, trolleys, security and more information for Pensacon

Pensacon kicks off later this week, and WEAR received all the need-to-know information for you!

Thursday festivities

The event is set to begin Thursday evening with a kick-off party at The Fish House.

"They'll have a costume contest and a lot of other fun things going on there, but the first thing people need to do is come to the Bay Center and pick up their weekend or VIP passes," said Pensacon Director of Marketing and Guest Services Kat Bishop.

You'll be able to pick up your VIP or weekend pass from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Thursday at the Pensacola Bay Center and beat the crowds!

"They don't have to wait in line on Friday morning to pick up their passes," Bishop said. "They can just get right in line to go in the Bay Center."

Bishop also said VIPs will be receiving information soon about on exclusive party they'll be able to attend at the Rails on Wright.

Bishop said there will be multiple venues like in past years. To name a few: Pensacola Bay Center, the Pensacola Grand Hotel, the REX Theatre, the Saenger Theatre, and the Pensacola Little Threatre (PLT).

"We have some late night events going on at PLT," Bishop said. "Like the Pensacon Short Film Festival and the Fright Night Screening. Also, there'll be a panel right before the movie screening."

A cosplay contest will be held at the Saenger Saturday evening.

Downtown businesses are also taking part in some fandom fun!

The Fish House will have a Harry Potter theme this year, the Deck Bar will be showcasing Star Wars, the Atlas Oyster Bar is Star Trek, and the newly opened Perfect Plain Brewing Company will have The Walking Dead theme!

Tin Cow and Hopjacks are also joining in on the fun with a Nintendo and Rick and Morty theme.

"Wear your walking shoes," Bishop advises.

Although complimentary trolleys will be an option, many people find it's easier to get from place to place just by taking a quick walk.

"This year, the trolleys have a GPS tracking device on them and you can download an app from Winterfest that can show you where exactly the trolley is and you can figure about how long it'll take to get where you are," Bishop said.

The trolleys will run Friday through Sunday and are free all weekend for Pensacon attendees.

There are a few changes they have been added to the Bay Center for security this year. Metal detectors have been added at all entrances for the safety of attendees and guests.

"Basically don't bring guns, don't bring knives, don't bring things like that that are gonna ping on the metal detector," Bishop said.

People are still allowed to cosplay and can bring their cosplay weapons.

"The Pensacola Bay Center's website has some details about their weapons and their screening procedures," Bishop said. "The Pensacon website also has information for the weapons policy about cosplay weapons if people have any questions about those."

The Saenger Theatre will also be utilizing wands.

"There are a couple of different ways to interact with our celebrity guests. They are in different places in the Bay Center," Bishop said. "If you're looking for authors and artists, they're going to be on the third floor ring of the Bay Center in the Artist's Alley area."

TV and movie personalities will be on the second floor of the Bay Center on both the east and west sides.

"People are welcome to come on down to the second floor, say hi to your celebrity of choice, pay to have an autograph or a selfie with them at their table," explained Bishop. "You can also purchase a professional photo opp with Wolf Studio Photography."

Ticket pricing

"The Friday passes are $35, Saturday passes are $45, and then Sunday passes are $40," Bishop said. "Your best value overall for the weekend, though, is to purchase the weekend pass. It’s currently only $75 right now, but at the door, the price does go up to $80.
