BREAKING WEATHER

SEVERE STORMS POSSIBLE OVERNIGHT & SUNDAY

It looks like some wet weather is headed our way tonight with the possibility of some severe storms overnight. A warm front is pushing north from the Gulf of Mexico into Northwest Florida as a storm system to the west of us moves in as well. Both look like theyll make for some showers with heavy rainfall possible at times. We also have the chance to see isolated storms close to the coast. Our chance for severe weather increases Sunday as the warm front tracks northeast. We could see strong thunderstorms, damaging winds, and we cant rule out the possibility of an isolated tornado. Some flooding could be possible due to the potential for heavy rainfall. Stay tuned to Channel 3 News for the latest updates.

HEALTH NEWS: Comfortable temperatures may be contributing to obesity story image
Are our comfortable, indoor temperatures at home or work contributing to obesity?

Some researchers say that might just be the case.
Trying to lose a few pounds?
Don't have time for the gym?
Well one research paper says that along with diet and exercise, turning down the thermostat may help trim your waistline.

We tend to keep the temperatures at home and work fairly constant from day to day and season to season.  But researchers say it may be healthier to let the indoor temperatures vary or drift, much like they rise and fall outside.

This change makes the body work harder to keep you comfortable which burns calories.

But you don't have to lower the thermostat so much that you end up shivering.  Try keeping it a little cooler than what you're used to.  And do that gradually.

The researchers looked at several studies for this article.  One from Japan followed people for 6 weeks and found that their body fat decreased after spending 2 hours a day in temperatures of about 63 degrees Fahrenheit.

If that seems a little chilly, researchers say try setting the thermostat at about 65 degrees.  When you include this as part of a healthy lifestyleyou may find you're a little thinner when its time to put on that bathing suit for summer....
