Medical Marijuana debate continues at UWF campus

Updated: Thursday, December 5 2013, 10:48 AM CST
Wednesday night a student group at the University of West Florida discussed the legalization of medical marijuana.

Why supporters believe Florida should legalize medical marijuana.
Jenise Fernandez
The open forum was held inside this auditorium at UWF. Among the speakers was Holley Moseley, a concerned mother who believes medical marijuana could drastically help her daughter.

Holley Moseley's ten year old daughter has epilepsy. Since birth, Moseley has tried treatment after treatment.. But nothing has worked.

"We have taken her all over the state, still having seizures every day"
She started doing research and discovered medical marijuana is being used as a way to help those with epilepsy.

Being a mother, Moseley is desperate to try anything and is ready to give her daughter the best care necessary.. Even if it means moving to another state.

"We've tried every treatment, this is hope for us"
UWF's "Students for Sensible Drug Policy" led the forum.
Opinions are strong on both sides of the issue.
The organization wants to educate and inform people on the benefits of medical marijuana.

Ethan Watters
"Medical marijuana is a doctor's issue not law enforcement issue"
According to United for Care, a statewide group pushing to legalize medical marijuana, close to a quarter million Floridians have signed a petition supporting the legalization.

"I really want, that is our main objective"
Jenise Fernandez
The battle over medical marijuana moves to the Florida Supreme Court on Thursday. The hearing could decide whether or not we see this very issue on the ballot next November.Medical Marijuana debate continues at UWF campus
