If you are looking to cut calories, the first step should be to stop dining out. A new study found that people who eat at restaurants consumed 200 more calories a day. In addition, eating out means more sugar, saturated fat and sodium, according to the study in Public Health Nutrition. Learn more.


Working the Computer Keeps Seniors Sharp

Researchers say that seniors who are active on their computers are less likely to suffer what is called cognitive decline or memory loss. A recent study looked at what the researchers called digital literacy (DL). They defined it as the ability to engage, plan and execute digital actions such as web browsing and exchanging emails. Diabetes Stalking Close to Half of Americans

Four out of ten Americans are expected to develop type 2 diabetes in their lifetimes. That's almost double the rate that was expected just 30 years ago. A new study in The Lancet Diabetes & Endocrinology, looked at 600,000 people over a 26 year period. The risk of developing diabetes climbed from 20 percent for men and 27 percent for women, to 40 percent for men and 39 percent for women. Learn more.


Scam Artists Claim Ebola Treatments

Any time there is a serious health issue in the news, you can expect the scam artists to claim that they have a miracle cure. So it is with Ebola. The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is advising consumers to be aware of products sold online claiming to prevent or treat the Ebola virus. Since the outbreak of the Ebola virus in West Africa, the FDA has seen and received consumer complaints about a variety of products claiming to either prevent the Ebola virus or treat the infection.
