HEALTHWATCH: New Year
It's day 22, if you're counting, for folks who set New Year's resolutions.
By now, many of us have lost our zeal for self improvement.

In tonight's Health Watch Report, Channel Three's Kathryn Daniel runs into one local woman who is just getting started.

Lacey Adair says usually -- by the third week of January -- she's firmly in a resolution slump.
Not this year...She's set goals with her girls in mind.

"I would like for them to have a role model that they like to follow and that we can be healthy as a family too."
Adair says two huge factors have kept her going...Her husband helps her make exercising a priority...And she's running with a crowd.

"Being here.  Being accountable to this group, definitely."
Two days before new year's -- Adair joined the "My First 5 K" class at Running Wild in Pensacola.

"I've made my friends in there, that's the other nice part."
Twice a week -- Adair trains with the group.  Three days a week she runs on her own.
"A little sore.  But good, each time definitely, gets a little easier, that's for sure."

"A lot of tendinitis, a lot of muscle strains, muscle pulls, seeing some stress fractures.  Particularly in runners who've done too much, too soon."))

Kujawski says people in their 40's should see  their doctor before starting an exercise regimen to check for cardiovascular risk factors.
He says 150 minutes of moderate exercise a week and a healthy diet are good goals.

He encourages his patients to focus on long term fitness...And to not get discouraged if they get off track here and there.¤W1 24 ]] C2.5 G 0 [[

"As a runner myself, i've had goals of races and not met that, either through injury or through life interfering."

In mid March, Adair will be ready to run her 5 K.
"I look forward to seeing my girls at the finish line knowing that I accomplished something and watching them seeing me set a goal and finish it, I'm pretty excited about that."
