LOCAL AREA - Can you imagine "living" outside in these frigid temperatures we've been having?

Last week, some kind souls left the comfort and warmth of their own homes to open doors for others.
More of the homeless had a place to go because of the Angels in our Midst.

Voice of Bo Sharpless, disaster team chief; one of the most beautiful sights i've ever seen is a gray lady riding on the front fender of a sheriff's deputy in Ft. Walton Beach.

This was after a tornado.
She had hot coffee.

Bo Sharpless has many such images of the American Red Cross from his 30 years in the Florida National Guard.

Now he's among the ranks of Red Cross volunteers. Bo is a disaster team chief standing up a shelter operation to bring the homeless in out of the cold.

Bo; other members of my team are out in the event that we have a house fire in Escambia County tonight or over in Santa Rosa County.

All of the team members know that disaster strikes in any season and at any hour. Still, they make that commitment to answer the call .

Sometimes when the phone rings at three o'clock in the morning, it causes one to ponder for about half a second; then you get up and go.

When help can't wait, they are there; from our military hospitals to teaching first aid to fund raising...

Jerry Kindle, American Red Cross CEO; We couldn't do any of the things we do without volunteers. In the Northwest Florida Chapter, for the four counties we serve, we have seven staff and over 800 volunteers.

All of us have to pay a lot of things forward and I'd like to think this is my way of paying mine forward.
