For cancer patients, following through with treatment is key to survival.
So, what if you had no way to get to your appointments?
Fortunately, many patients get a lifesaving lift from the Angels in Our Midst.
Voice of Susan Inglett, Cancer Patient;  "In May, I was diagnosed with inflammatory breast cancer.  It is very aggressive, fast spreading..."

Susan Inglett's treatment would be just as aggressive; surgery, followed by chemotherapy twice a week and radiation five days a week.

Susan;  "Transportation was an issue because my family could take me on their days off because they work.  And when they don't, well, I was concerned about how I was going to get there."

Susan was told to contact the American Cancer Society for help.  She made the call.

Susan Inglett, Cancer Patient;  She said, "We'll get in touch with you.  How many times have you ever heard that.  Well, it wasn't an hour later, I had a lady saying, We'll come and pick you up tomorrow."

That started the procession of "Road to Recovery" volunteer drivers coming to Susan's rescue.  Drivers like Former City Councilman Rhette Anderson.

Rhette Anderson, Drives Cancer Patients to Treatments;  "Give them a friendly face to speak with. ... We talk about positive things in their lives and they lighten up."

Susan;  "All walks of life of people who just care.  And, it's amazing, when you're going through what you're going through and you think you're by yourself, but you're not."

They find a peace in not traveling the road to recovery alone.  But, the drivers get some perspective on this journey too.

Rhette;  "We all have our concerns and worries.  You know, they "do" have  concerns and worries but every single one of them expresses a positive outlook on life."

The drivers wait patiently through the course of treatments so they're for the return trip home.

Rhette;  "The satisfaction that I'm helping; doing something for our community.   And if we all just reach out, just once a day, we'll all be much better off."

Susan;  "For those people that would come out and just take a person home; so much they give, which is of themselves."

"Aaahhh, Praise God for you.  And thank you so much on behalf of all the cancer survivors."
