ESCAMBIA COUNTY  -  A grateful mother's letter led us to this next story.

Whether it was his leadership class at school or what he learned at home, her daughter's classmate shares a lesson in caring.

Robert  Windom and Bobbi Marshall are in the drumline at West Florida High School.  They didn't know each other well but when Robert saw Bobbi in trouble, he didn't miss a beat to go to her aid.

Bobbi Marshall, got sick at school;  "I said, I need to sit down.  Then I blacked out completely and I heard someone say, Here, put her on this."

"This" was Robert's backpack.  He had seen her go down.

Robert Windom, Stopped to help a classmate;  "I was about where those two pick-up trucks are and I saw a group of three people up over there, one of them sitting down. I realized it was Bobbi so I started to run."

The two friends with her were stunned and a crowd of onlookers had gathered around.
Bobbi;  When I got up, the two friends that were next to me were gone and he was there.

Bobbi had come around, but Robert was still watching out for her and it's probably a good thing.

Robert;  "She probably only made it from about here to right here.  She started to fall back.  I was standing right here so I jumped in and caught her like this and sat her down onto the ground."

Bobbi;  "I fell that way. I just, like, collapsed."
If she had fallen, Bobbi would have hit her head on a steel manhole cover.

Mary Jane Sourdif, Bobbi's Mom;  "Mainly, I'm in awe that this young man stepped forward.  That he did what, even her friends were around and they just kind of hung back and watched it, whereas, he just reacted.  And, nowadays, kids don't do that so much."

By now, the principal, resource officer and school nurses were on the way.  Still Robert didn't leave, he stayed with her in the clinic.

Bobbi's Mom;  "He stayed with her until I took her home.  I mean, he put her in my van. I just have so much respect for him.  He's a great young man."

Bobbi;   "I was just amazed.  I think it's just amazing that someone would just, I don't know, it left me speechless."

Robert;  "Bobbi said, you're going to be late to band.  I said, I know, but, hey, I have an excuse; I'm helping out a friend."
