Weather Alert

On the map below, the circle over the Gulf of Mexico is for an area of low pressure heading toward Texas.  Development is not expected.  Also, we're tracking Cristobal and a tropical wave over the Atlantic Ocean that may become another depression though chances are low.

ESCAMBIA COUNTY  -  A member of Marcus Pointe Baptist Church is such a living testimony of courage, the church shared her story on their website.
Now, for people from China, to Russia, to Africa and Brazil, when we're tempted to complain about the little things, Serena puts life in perspective.

"My name is Serena Schwerdfeger and I'm 11 years old and I have an disease called Primary Immune Disorder."

In the videotape now seen around the world, that is how Serena Schwerdfeger's story begins. Until three years ago, she was a pretty typical child.

"I could play outside with my friends and have sleepovers and go to birthday parties and do everything a normal kid can do."

Then her body suddenly seemed to turn on itself.
"Your body produces millions of white blood cells a day and mine only produces hundreds.  So, mine can't fight off the bacteria like yours can.  So, I get sick very easily."

That has led to constant doctor's visits, hospitalizations, infusions, and isolation.

Lisa; "Serena's Mom;  She's sick four days out of the seven a week. We don't leave this house, we don't go anywhere."

But, her debilitating rare illness would only be part of Serena's story.  One year ago, the police came to their home.

"My father died.  Was a Thursday, he killed himself. I was ten whenever he died.  He died in January, my birthday's in February.  So, he just missed my birthday."

And then another loss.
"Just recently, my pawpaw passed away.  Since my dad had died, my pawpaw was very close to me."

Through the losses and sickness, Serena kept her smile and turned to her church family.
"I need you to pray for me.  And I need you to think of me and all of that."

With that, she's left her disease in God's hands. This young girl's story and her faith are touching hearts everywhere.

"I know He's going to heal me.  He can do it.  I just have to have faith and believe in Him.  And if I do, He'll heal me.  It just takes some time."
