Angels in our Midst (Willie Dunavin)

It can be easy for us to focus on the things we don't have or the things we can no longer do.
A resident at the Sterling House Assisted Living Facility in Pensacola is an example of finding happiness by doing what you can, with what you've got.

Voice of Willie Dunavin;  I've had a stroke.  I also had some heart problems.
Dorothy Richardson, Miss Willie's Neighbor;  She doesn't get around too well.  She can't talk too well.  She's had a stroke.

That stroke and Spinal Stenosis have slowed her steps.  She needs oxygen therapy from time to time. And sometimes her words don't come as easily as they once did.  But, Willie Dunavin's hands are still working just fine.

Dorothy Richardson, Miss Willie's Neighbor;  In her condition, she does so much and takes up all her time crocheting everyday; constantly now.

Willie Dunavin, My grandmother taught me when I was four years old, how to crochet.
And I just grew from there.

Miss Willie's talents helped her open her own thriving business; Grapevine Stitchery in Pace.  She specialized in designing and making wedding dresses and evening gowns.  Those days behind her, the gift is still at her fingertips. And now she's using it to comfort Hospice patients.

Elizabeth Fayard, Regency Hospice Center;  It's so meaningful for her to be able to do something special  for those in need.  And she creates these beautiful little shawls that they can wrap around their shoulders when they're cold laying up in bed.

She shares the warmth of caps and booties with the babies at Children's Hospital at Sacred Heart.  There are the blankets for her fellow seniors and crosses for inspiration and peace.

Dorothy;  Those hands are busy day in and day out; they really are.
With her Little Angel Pepper Ann always by her side,  keeping those hands busy is Miss Willie's way of giving thanks for the measure of health that she does have; being grateful for the little things.

Elizabeth;  She knows she's doing something meaningful and purposeful with her life.
Willie;  I just like to keep busy and do what I can.  I do it for the Lord; that's the main thing.

Angels in our Midst is brought to you by Sacred Heart Children's Hospital.
