A SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WARNING is in effect for northwestern Santa Rosa County & central Escambia County until 6:15 a.m. A thunderstorm with winds over 60 MPH is moving northeast at 50 MPH. Take cover until the storm passes.

A FLASH FLOOD WATCH is in effect for the WEAR-TV area through Sunday at 1 p.m.  More rain on top of the saturated ground may lead to flooding problems.  Water on roads may be deeper than it appears.  Turn around, don't drown!

Gulf coasts yards are struggling this season.
First way too much rain, and lately not enough.
   
Now, a pest has emerged.
Channel Three's Kathryn Daniel finds out more for us in today's Dayside Garden.

Ground pearls are scale insects that attack grass, primarily centipede

The lay eggs in the spring
The crawlers or nymphs attach themselves to the roots of grass and suck the juice out

Causes stress to the grass like poor color and vigor

No chemical or biological control will help
Proper maintenance such as watering fertilizing and mowing
