Amber Southard's Blue Angels flight experience

Updated: Friday, July 11 2014, 07:51 PM CDT
Have you ever wondered what it was like to fly with the Blue Angels? Channel 3's Amber Southard got the experience of a life time and flew with the local hometown heroes in Jet #7.

Before she got to fly she had to go through training, and even though she didn't want to admit it....she was a little nervous. "I was pretty nervous, like okay, here's the day."

The seven crew Chief prepped her for the flight, letting her know what she may experience. He even shared his first flight experience, and taught her the Hick Maneuver.
Where you have to tighten all the muscles in your lower body, pushing blood back to your heads, while pulling G's.

Then it was Amber's turn to show off her skills.

After that, Lt. Ryan Chamerlain, the number seven pilot, walked her through the flight routine. And before she knew it, it was time to suit up and get on the fighter jet.
She was so nervous her last question for the pilot was, "This is the correct pocket you want me to put my vomit in? Yep it will be down here."

And his last piece of advice was, "Just remember to breathe and have fun. Get the G, don't let the G get you."

She was strapped in tight and as ready as she could be. From up in the air, she said the view of the beach, clouds, and sky was amazing.
But before she could get too comfortable it was time to do some stunts.

They broke the speed of sound at nearly 800 miles per hour, and after being super sonic, it was time for her to face the G monster. "Weightless."

She said she felt amazing after doing stunts and facing the G force with a Blue Angel pilot, but her ride wasn't over. She had one more fight with the G monster before landing. "Squeeze those legs, take a deep breath.....ready hit it. Come on you've got this. Just a couple more seconds, Keep squeezing. Keep squeezing. And you're done."

Waving to her family as she landed, she felt on top of the world. She had just ridden in a Blue Angels aircraft.

"She did awesome. She pulled 5.6G's and didn't pass out and didn't get sick. She did awesome."

"It was amazing. It was the best thing I've ever done in my whole entire life."
