25,000 people expected to pack Pensacola for Pensacon 2017
PENSACOLA, Fla, (WEAR) —
Today's the day; Pensacon officially kicks off this afternoon. Last minute preparations are being taken care of as thousands of people are expected to attend the convention.
An estimate 25,000 to 30,000 people are expected to take part in the three-day convention. Pensacon organizers say last year, they had tickets purchased from every state across the U.S. This year, they've even sold some tickets in Finland. While those visitors are here, they're spending lots of cash.
"People come from all over the world for Pensacon," said Kat Bishop, Pensacon marketing director. "Over the past three years, Pensacon has directly contributed to over $8 million economic impact in the Pensacola area. That's not money that Pensacon receives, that's money that was brought in and spent in the local community. Last year's economic impact was about $3 million and we're anticipating, if we get the same amount of crowds, the same or higher."
Tickets for Pensacon are still on sale, both online and at the door.
