ECSO deputies save man from burning truck
PENSACOLA, Fla. (WEAR) —
An early morning accident on I-10 near Pine Forest Road has left at least one person injured.
Emergency crews were called out a little after 3:00 a.m. on Thursday.
The Escambia County Sheriff's Office said a sergeant witnessed the pickup truck crash into an impact attenuator on the back of an L30 truck.
The truck burst into flames with the driver trapped inside, the sheriff's office said.
Sgt. Pollock grabbed his fire extinguisher and began putting the fire out, but the extinguisher eventually ran out.
Backup was called and two other deputies were able to help put the fire out with their extinguishers.
Sgt. Pollock had to use his empty fire extinguisher to bust out the back window of the truck so deputies could help the driver.
Deputies said the driver didn't suffer any burns and was airlifted to a local hospital for treatment.
The Florida Highway Patrol has identified the driver as 26-year-old Harris McDonnel. He's was taken to Sacred Heart Hospital and is in critical condition, state troopers said.
