Back to school: Preparing for a successful year
CRESTVIEW, Fla. (WEAR) —
School begins Thursday for Okaloosa, Escambia and Walton County school districts.
Students in Santa Rosa County are scheduled to start back at school on Monday, August 14.
For the best first day back at school, keep these tips in mind:
1. Get a good night's sleep.
2. Eat a healthy well-balanced breakfast.
3. If you are a bus rider, know where the school bus stop is, and arrive at the designated area 15 minutes before the bus is scheduled to arrive.
In Okaloosa County, Superintendent Mary Beth Jackson said she's most excited about welcoming 800 new students to the school district.
She's also looking forward to the implementation of several new programs.
"One is a reading program in our K2 classes... Additionally, we're doing something called trauma-informed counseling and teaching," Superintendent Jackson said. "Everyone will be informed in trauma-informed counseling. It's so that we can recognize not just the academic things that are going on in a child's life, but maybe some things that we need to really be aware of so that we can help."
When it comes to actually getting to school, Jackson said the best way to keep track of bus schedules is to get online.
"If you go on our website at www.okaloosaschools.com, you will see a link on the side, and you can click on that link, and you can see where your child will be picked up," said Jackson.
For Walton County, go here, click on 'district info', then 'bus routes'.
