Investigators believe Clear Lake Place shooting stemmed from neighbor dispute
GULF BREEZE, Fla. (WEAR) —
A 67-year-old man is charged with attempted second-degree murder in a shooting that happened Tuesday morning in Gulf Breeze. According to the police report, the violent incident between neighbors stemmed from a statement the suspect, Nolen Childers, made about the victim's wife.
Deputies were called to the 2800 block of Clear Lake Place after 68-year-old Ralph Amick was shot in the back around 11 a.m., according to the Santa Rosa County Sheriff's Office (SRCSO). The report states authorities got two calls - one from the suspect and one from Amick's wife.
Amick told deputies he confronted Childers for making a negative comment about his wife. He said he told Childers he "wasn't going to put up with his crap anymore." According to the victim, that's when Childers pulled a pistol from the back of his pants and fired.
Santa Rosa County dispatchers report Childers then called and stated, "he came after me". Investigators determined they had enough evidence to arrest him, instead. Childers is being held in the Santa Rosa County Jail with no bond.
