Record low temperatures caused the Escambia County School District (ECSD) to cancel outside activities for two days. Outdoor sports and activities for Tuesday, January 2nd and Wednesday, January 3rd will be canceled, according to a release from the district's spokesperson, Kim Stefansson.

District schools will resume regular schedules on Wednesday, January 3rd. The district is asking parents to plan to limit student exposure to the elements as it relates to waiting at bus stops and traveling to school.

Superintendent Malcolm Thomas has announced the cancellation of all outdoor sports/activities for Tuesday, January 2nd and Wednesday, January 3rd due to low temperatures; however, district schools will resume regular schedules on Wednesday, Jan. 3. In preparation for the cold temperatures, district transportation routes will be handled as promptly as possible; the District requests assistance in asking families to formulate plans tonight to limit student exposure while traveling to school or waiting at bus stops in the mornings and evenings.

The district added that weather predictions for the rest of the week will be monitored. CLICK HERE to connect with ECSD.

On Monday, Baldwin County School Superintendent Eddie Tyler announced the district will temporarily relax the dress code to allow students to wear the warmest clothing possible during the harsh temperatures.
