Commissioner Bergosh wants change with heavy traffic at Navy Federal
ESCAMBIA COUNTY, Fla. (WEAR) —
Escambia County Commissioner Jeff Bergosh wants something done about traffic issues near Navy Federal.
In an editorial in NorthEscambia.com, Bergosh said he was told it takes credit union employees 20 minutes just to get from the parking lot onto Nine Mile Road during afternoon traffic.
One suggestion he made was an interchange from Interstate 10 at the Florida Welcome Center to the rear of Navy Federal's campus.
However, federal law prohibits exit ramps from being less than a mile from each other.
Bergosh said the next exit is .95 miles away.
It would take an exemption to allow the road to be built and, so far, one hasn't been granted.
Bergosh feels if something isn't done soon it could jeopardize the 3,800 jobs that are supposed to come here with Navy Federal's planned expansion.
