Destin sex trafficking operation shut down

Destin sex trafficking operation shut down

On September 18, Okaloosa County Sheriff's deputies executed a search warrant at 'Keepsafe Storage' in Crestview. Inside unit E22, they found a driver's license belonging to one of the girls who claims she was being prostituted out by De'jion Kimbrough and Anthony Miles.

Both men were arrested in connection with a sex trafficking operation. Investigators said they prostituted out multiple young women and at least one juvenile over the course of a year, using the website, www.backpage.com to find 'johns'.

Michael Sanders manages the apartment complex across the street.

"It's part of my job to see anything that goes on that is abnormal to make contact with them," said Sanders. "And if you need to call the police, you call the police."

Sanders told us he's seen sheriff's deputies and Crestview police officers coming and going in and out of the facility, but never guessed it was about anything like this.

"I've been here nine years, and of course I see people coming and going all the time," said Sanders. "But to have something like that, with children and adults in a storage facility, that's just strange."

What the men did at the storage facility, which was rented by miles, isn't quite clear. According to investigators, it was at Motel 6 in Destin, where the men prostituted the young girls.

"It breaks my heart for those who are involved," said Bridget Carnley.

Carnley owns a business just a few hundred feet away from the motel. Although she said the news is surprising, she adds at the same time, it's not.

"I-10 is what, about 45 minutes from here? There's a big intersection up in DeFuniak, they've got one in Crestview - it goes straight across the country. It's just been known, we've read about it being a high traffic corridor for that," said Carnley. "It's been going on for, if you think about it, thousands of years, it's just that we're more aware of it than we've ever been aware of it before."

Both Miles and Kimbrough, who are facing multiple other prostitution charges out of Georgia, are being held without bond at the Okaloosa County Jail.
