A mother's threat to smash a Destin teen's prized possession was the catalyst for a violent golf club attack, authorities say.

Okaloosa County Sheriff's Office deputies arrested 16-year-old Nathan Cole Robertson for attacking his mother and step-father. It happened Monday, November 13th at a home on Sand Myrtle Trail in Destin.

According to the arrest report, Robertson's mother told the responding deputy they began argung when he refused to stop a multi-player video game and talk to her. She said she threatened to smash his game console with a golf club.

The mother said her son "became aggressive", grabbed the club from her and pushed her. Her husband said he came into the living room when he heard yelling and tried to intervene.

Robertson told deputies his step-father hit him with another golf club to get him off his mother. The step-father said that's when Robertson hit him in the face with the golf club he'd struggled to get from his mother.

Robertson told deputies he hit his step-father until the club broke then tried to stab him with the broken end but “it didn’t work”. The father drove himself to a medical facility for treatment.

Robertson is charged domestic violence battery on his mother and felony domestic-violence related aggravated battery on his step-father. He was taken to a Department of Juvenile Justice facility.
