A white substance detected on a license plate caused alarm at the tax collector's office Wednesday morning.

Shortly after 11:00 a.m., Escambia County fire crews responded to 213 Palafox Place because employees reported detecting a chemical smell on the tag.

Escambia County Fire Chief Pat Grace told Channel 3 News that crews from Engine 16 and Hazardous Materials 16, along with Chief of Emergency Management John Dosh responded to the scene.

An investigation determined the substance was Bisquik.
