Milton council to vote on church exemptions for alcohol ordinance
MILTON, Fla. (WEAR) —
The Milton City Council is moving forward with a change to its alcohol ordinance. Tuesday, we told you that currently, a city ordinance prohibits sales or consumption of alcohol within 500 feet of a church. The only exception is for sacramental purposes.
The council is developing a proposal that would allow churches to apply for a temporary exemption.
That would allow wine or other alcohol to be served at special events, like a wine and cheese social.
A priest from St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church asked for the change.
The council will vote on the proposa for the first time on September 26th and a final vote is expected October 10th.
