Mission Pawssible: Big dogs, bigger hearts
It's 'Mission Pawssible' - our monthly segment featuring local animal shelters and rescue groups in hopes of finding forever homes for adoptable pets.
Great Danes are one of the biggest breeds of dogs and they have even bigger hearts! Many of them are looking for homes right here in northwest Florida.
Michelle Cramer, president of the Northwest Florida Great Dane Rescue, said they have dozens of dogs waiting to be adopted.
"This is Daphne; Daphne is about six years old," said Michelle. "She is considered a merle female and she's looking for her forever home. Daphne is wonderful; she is laid back, she doesn't get into things she's not supposed to, she gets along with dogs, cats, kids, everyone."
For the first time in many years, the rescue has a brindle Dane - a unique color pattern highly sought after.
"Hannah is a petite brindle; she gets along with everyone," said Michelle. "Brindle is a rare color for a Dane, and she will be perfect in just about any home."
Another Dane looking for a home is Rocky. Rocky is an older Dane who will require a little extra help.
"Rocky came to us and had to have double knee surgery," said Michelle. "He will need a special home that can tend to his needs."
Next up is Patton - the picturesque Great Dane.
"Patton is a large boy," said Michelle. "He is a mantle; he will need an active family."
Last but not least, there is Layla.
"Layla is an energetic female and she will need an active family," said Michelle. "Maybe someone with older kids who can keep up with her."
If you're interested in adopting any of these Great Danes, or would like to see some other Danes available within the rescue, follow Northwest Florida Great Dane Rescue on Facebook or visit their website here.
They're also holding an upcoming adoption event. Pensacola Bay Brewery Dane Day is happening Sunday, May 28 from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. at the Pensacola Bay Brewery, located at 225 East Zaragoza Street in Pensacola.
