Update: FBI now involved in search for missing 12-year-old girl

An Escambia County mother is pleading for your help to bring her 12-year-old home safe and sound.

Naomi Jones was last seen Wednesday, May 31st in the 1400 block of Johnson Avenue in front of the Aspen Village Apartments.

Volunteers with KlaasKIDS set up a command center at Olive Baptist Church Thursday evening.

And now, Channel 3 has learned that the FBI is involved in the search. The Escambia County Sheriff's Office (ECSO) confirmed the FBI's involvement. Jones is considered missing and endangered worldwide.

Her mother, Shantara Hurry, contacted Channel 3 News saying the girl went missing while walking the family dog.

The mother said Naomi walked the dog with her brothers. Everyone came inside. The child left the home again, alone, and never returned.

“She walked out the door and I thought she was playing hide-and-seek with the kids," Hurry told Channel 3 News.

Hurry believes her child did not run away because she is a “mama’s girl” and she would never go anywhere without her phone.

“She didn’t have her phone with her that’s the thing about it. That’s how I know something is wrong. It’s not like a 12-year-old child to have a cellphone and not carry it with them everywhere that go," Hurry told Channel 3 News.

Her mom used her daughter's phone to reach out to people she connected with on social media.

"I don't know how to feel at this point, I need her back at home with mama."

Maj. Andrew Hobbs with the ECSO confirmed they're trying to find the child.

Naomi is 5'1", weighs about 90 to 100 pounds, has brown eyes and is wearing pink and black braids.

She was wearing a red spaghetti strapped shirt, red, white and blue American flag shorts and a white choker necklace.

The mother said she went through her little girl's phone and contacted her friends on Facebook, SnapChat and Musical.ly which are all social media mobile applications.

Family, friends, volunteers and strangers are said to be praying for the missing child at Olive Baptist Sportsplex.

Call KlaasKIDS at 855-733-5567 or ECSO at 850-436-9630 if you know where she is.
