Nelson, Rubio call on feds to extend red snapper season
Don't cut red snapper season short! That is the message two Florida Senators are sending to the National Oceanographic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA).
Earlier this week, NOAA announced the red snapper fishing season in the Gulf would be nearly a week shorter than last year.
On Thursday, U.S. Sen. Bill Nelson (D-FL) and Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL) wrote a letter to the NOAA urging them to be more flexible and reconsider the impact on recreational fishermen and charter fishermen.
"We ask that you consider incorporating all available reliable data to ensure anglers can safely fish for an appropriate season, which contributes valuable tourism revenue to coastal economies and ensures access to this public resource," the senators wrote.
