NW Florida's "Five Star Schools" recognized

The Florida Department of Education is recognizing schools that earned its Five Star School Award for the 2016-2017 school year. Nearly two dozen schools in Escambia, Santa Rosa and Okaloosa Counties made the list.

The award honors the schools' accomplishments in forming partnerships with businesses, getting families involved, bringing in volunteers, encouraging community service by students, and keeping their School Advisory Council active. Schools must also earn a grade of "C" or better or receive a school improvement rating of "maintaining" or "commendable."

  • Cordova Park Elementary School
  • Ferry Pass Elementary School
  • Hellen Caro Elementary School
  • Jim Allen Elementary School

  • Molino Park Elementary School
  • N.B. Cook Elementary School
  • Pleasant Grove Elementary School
  • Scenic Heights Elementary School

Santa Rosa:

  • Chumuckla Elementary School
  • Gulf Breeze Elementary School
  • Gulf Breeze Middle School
  • Holley Navarre Primary School
  • Oriole Beach Elementary School
  • S.S. Dixon Intermediate School
  • West Navarre Primary School

Okaloosa:
