Okaloosa County resource officer leaves weapon in faculty bathroom
OKALOOSA COUNTY, Fla. (WEAR) —
An inquiry is underway after an Okaloosa County school resource officer left her weapon inside a faculty bathroom Monday morning. The Okaloosa County Sheriff's Office (OCSO) reports this bathroom is off-limits to students.
According to OCSO, the officer placed her service weapon on a shelf that is approximately six feet above the floor while in a restroom at Elliot Point Elementary School.
"The weapon was there less than five minutes before the officer realized she had not put it back on her belt," according to OCSO.
A parent noticed it inside the bathroom around 9:10 a.m. while searching for paper towels. According to OCSO, the school resource officer immediately reported the incident to her supervisors.
