Orange Beach considers new rules for vacation rentals

Orange Beach homes (WPMI)

Orange Beach city leaders say they've had enough of complaints and issues stemming from short term vacation rentals in residential neighborhoods.

Today Orange Beach City Council is set to vote on a new ordinance that could help solve that problem.

We are talking about a new vacation rental license only allowing homeowners who rent their properties to do so if renters stay at least 14 days or longer.

If the proposal passes a vote, current homeowners with annual short term rental licenses will be grandfathered in,but once that expires the new license will be required.

Orange Beach City Administrator Ken Grimes told us back in January that it all boils down to complaints and problems.

The new proposal would not affect condo owners or similar properties outside of residential zones.

City council is set to meet to today at 5 and vote on this ordinance.
