Pensacola's second medical marijuana dispensary opens
PENSACOLA, Fla. (WEAR) —
Pensacola's second medical marijuana dispensary is now open. "Surterra Wellness" opened Monday morning on Bayou Boulevard near the mall.
Patients were there early filling prescriptions and sharing success stories.
Congressman Matt Gaetz was also in attendance talking about his push for the federal government to reclassify marijuana. He's filed a bill that would take marijuana out of the same category as heroin and put it in a class with things like steroids.
Gaetz said that would allow much more research and many more patients to get help.
He continued, "The federal government has taken the position that marijuana can never have medical value. That is a lie. There are people here today that I met years ago that couldn't walk, that were wheelchair bound, that are now up and around, mobile and happy because they've received cannabis treatment that's been far more productive than opioids or other types of prescription drugs."
Gaetz is also working on legislation that would end the "gag rule" at the VA. He said right now VA doctors aren't allowed to talk to veterans about how to get cannabis in their states.
