Pensacon is underway at the Pensacola Bay Center!

Event organizers are expecting a big crowd Friday, and an even bigger one Saturday.

Steve Hayes, the President of Visit Pensacola, told Channel 3 about how this event is helping out the city's local economy.

Hayes says that Pensacon brings the community together in a unique way, and as more and more people find out about Pensacon each year, they travel from all over the country to Pensacola, including special celebrity guests and animators- which does wonders for Pensacola.

"Last year, Pensacon- as far as the spending- was about $1.8 million of direct spend in our community, and what that means is you've got people coming in and spending money in our restaurants, the shopping, activities," explained Hayes.

He added, "And that's an infusion of cash into our community at a time which normally is not deemed our season, so it comes at a great time."

Hayes says each year he's seen Pensacon grow in numbers bringing more and more people... which means more money to our local economy.
