Man shot in deputy-involved shooting pronounced dead

Jonathan David Victor, 35

A man has died after being shot by a Baldwin County Sheriff's deputy Friday afternoon.

Officials say he was airlifted to USA Medical Center in Mobile where he was pronounced deceased around 1 a.m. Saturday morning.

He has been identified as Jonathan David Victor. Victor is 35 years old and from Metairie, Louisiana.

Major Anthony Lowery with the sheriff's office states:

The Baldwin County Major Crimes Unit continues the investigation into an officer involved shooting that occurred on Interstate 10 in Baldwin County on Friday, May 12, 2017.
The man shot was flown to USA Medical Center in Mobile, Alabama where he was pronounced deceased around 1 a.m. this morning.
He has been identified as Jonathan David Victor. Victor is 35 years old and from Metairie, Louisiana.

Captain Steve Arthur with the sheriff's office has confirmed that the suspect drove his car off the road at Interstate 10 eastbound near mile marker 59.

Emergency responders arrived on scene and the driver became combative with first responders, which prompted a call to the sheriff's office.

Authorities say the driver became combative with a deputy as well and was shot. Investigators can't confirm if the man had a weapon at this time.

The deputy involved in the shooting has been placed on administrative leave.

The Baldwin County Major Crimes Unit will take over the investigation. It consists of a number of investigators with different police departments from the country.
