Tropical Depression Eight forms in the Atlantic

TD Eight formed in the western Atlantic Saturday evening.

Tropical Depression Eight (formerly Invest 99L) formed in the western Atlantic on Saturday evening.

As of Sunday morning, the tropical depression was located northeast of the Bahamas with maximum sustained winds of 35 m.p.h..

It is tracking north-northwest around 14 m.p.h. and it is expected to shift to the north, followed by a northeasterly track away from the United States.

Some strengthening is expected on Sunday and it is expected to form into Tropical Storm Gert.

A tropical storm has winds of 39 m.p.h. to 73 m.p.h. before it becomes a hurricane.

We are also keeping an eye on a new tropical wave that has emerged off of the coast of Africa.

It is expected to gradually strengthen over the next few days. The National Hurricane Center has deemed a low chance for formation through five days.
