Update: Officer injured at Naomi Jones funeral has surgery pushed back

The Pensacola police officer who was involved in a two-vehicle collision on Friday will not have surgery Saturday as originally planned.

Detective Brad Buddin was hit by a vehicle while on his motorcycle during the funeral procession of 12-year-old Naomi Jones, who authorities say was killed 24 to 36 hours after going missing on May 31.

Pensacola Police Department (PPD) Captain Stephen Davis told Channel 3 that while Buddin is in stable condition, he has a broken leg and "extensive" shoulder damage, so it's "up in the air" as to when exactly his surgery will be.

Once his swelling stabilizes a little more, Davis said, surgery will be scheduled. He said it should take place sometime next week.

"He's in good spirits and of course the whole Pensacola Police Department family is behind him and supporting him," Captain Davis told Channel 3. "We'll be there with him every step of the way."

Buddin was rushed to Sacred Heart Hospital after the collision occurred.

The PPD said the woman whose vehicle hit Buddin could face charges, but it's all a matter of how the investigation goes.
