Veteran transportation service to end

Health Image by MGN

A free transportation service for veterans needing medical care will end March 31st, due to lack of funds.

Santa Rosa Vets to VA Clinics has provided free door-to-door transportation to the Joint Ambulatory Care Center in Pensacola for the past five years. Currently, 90 veterans are registered with the service.

The non-profit organization worked in partnership with Santa Rosa County and the Tri-County Community Council.

A statement from the county says the state changed its funding distribution formula, resulting in the loss of $87,917 dollars to Santa Rosa County's Transportation Disadvantaged Trust Fund. The veteran transportation program cost $2,000 to $4,000 per month, so donation funds ran out quickly.

Veterans needing transportation to the VA clinic in Pensacola are eligible for the Transportation Disadvantaged Program and should contact Santa Rosa Transportation at (850) 626-6806 to discuss their options.
