Woman pleads guilty in Shalimar man's heroin overdose death
OKALOOSA COUNTY, Fla. (WEAR) —
A woman pled guilty to manslaughter in connection with her role in a 2015 fatal overdose of a Shalimar military veteran.
The Okaloosa County Sheriff's Office had charged 25-year-old Darian Caldwell with homicide resulting from distribution of a controlled substance. Caldwell was a Fort Walton Beach resident at the time.
According to the sheriff's office, 36-year-old Chad Beezley of Shalimar was found dead from a heroin overdose inside his home on October 3, 2015.
Investigators determined Caldwell had supplied the drugs that killed him.
A homicide warrant was issued in December 2016, but Caldwell left the area.
Caldwell was found in Texas and taken back to Okaloosa County in April 2018.
The sheriff's office said this case is the first successful investigation in Okaloosa County where a defendant was charged and convicted for their role in the death of an individual from a heroin overdose.
Caldwell was sentenced to three years in prison on Wednesday.
