Navy's top female officer to command Africa, Europe
The Navy's highest ranking female officer has been tapped to command Naval forces in Europe and Africa, Military.com reports.
Admiral Michelle Howard was nominated by President Obama to lead the command that oversees operations across the Atlantic and Mediterranean.
If approved by Congress the nomination will mark another milestone in Howard's career.
She became the highest-ranking female officer in Navy History in 2014 after pinning her fourth star to become Vice Chief of Naval Operations.
She was also the first African-American woman to command a ship in 1999.
