11-year-old girl calls 911 when man overdoses behind wheel

Deputies say a 911 call placed by an 11-year-old girl saved her father who apparently overdosed while driving.

Deputies say the actions of an 11-year-old girl are nothing short of heroic, for making a 911 call.

According to the report, Deputies found the little girl along 6th Street and Cypress Dr, just a block north of Silver Beach Road, where she was crying and scared.

Deputies say 28-year-old David Reitz was found passed out behind the wheel.

The 11-year-old girl, who was riding in the car, told Deputies the two left a nearby store and stopped at a house in Riviera Beach.

Reitz went inside for 30 minutes, while she stayed in the car.

When he returned, he got behind the wheel and started swerving all over the road, eventually passing out.

The little girl woke him up and told him to pull over.

That's when she called 911.

Palm Beach County Fire Rescue pumped 4 doses of Narcan into Reitz before taking him to the hospital.

Deputies searched the car and found a bag with possible heroin capsules inside.

CBS12 has learned Reitz died from apparent overdose 2 days later.

The Department of Children and Families released the following statement regarding the child:

"We are very concerned about this situation. The Department opened a Child Protective Investigation upon learning of this situation. The child is currently in the care of the family, we are working closely with them to ensure that the child is protected."

No word yet on Reitz's relationship with the 11-year-old.

We've learned this is isn't Reitz first run in with the law.

In 2015, he was released from prison after serving 3 years for drug trafficking.
