Apple CEO Tim Cook attends groundbreaking of new facility in Reno
RENO, Nev. (KRNV) -- Apple CEO Tim Cook joined Gov. Brian Sandoval and Mayor Hillary Schieve Tuesday to break ground on a new shipping and receiving facility in downtown Reno.
The facility will be located at the corner of Evans Avenue and Fifth Street. It will serve as an extension of the data center already in Sparks.
Assistant city attorney Jonathan Shipman said that Nevada and Apple have an agreement that abates all sales tax except for 2 percent.
The City of Reno then agreed to abate an additional 1.5 percent under the Tourism Improvement District reimbursement agreement.
Apple will only be paying a 0.5 percent sales tax as a result.
