Teacher Pay: Do you believe teachers in the area make enough money?
| 40% | Yes | |
| 60% | No |
Comment: States in the Northeast U.S. have the highest rated education systems. They also have the highest paid teachers. Increase the pay and you increase the quality of education. from Pensacola, FL by Zach
Comment: I don't believe that teachers make enough money. I hate when they say that teachers average this amount of money... $41.000,most do not. All they are doing is taking a first year teacher's salary of $32,000 and a 26 year teacher's salary of $51,000 and averaging it. If you look at the pay scale on the Escambia county school website, a teacher doesn't not even make $40,000 until they have been teaching for 15 years. Right now teachers are not getting any step increases and are stuck. from Pensacola by Sharon
Comment: Teachers in our area absolutely do not make enough money for the work and dedication they give to our students. from Gulf Breeze FL by Lynn
Comment: They have to spend moeny for there glass room so and all so they stay late and dont get credit for that. from pensacola,fl by lynn
Comment: Will Mr. Kelly be willing to take a cut in pay? After all this is not the tax collector's office. Class room teacher are some of the hardest workers in this county. Let Mr. Kelly take a class for a month, not a day or a week, a month. from Baker, FL by James
Comment: We don't mind turning kids over for our teachers to educate. We do seem to have a problem paying them for this service they provide. How many out there with the credentials a teacher has would work for the pitance that teachers receive. Why do we allow the legislature to make it illegal for teachers to strike for liveable wages with their unions? Why do school boards have the authority to refuse arbitration results? It seems like there is something rotten in Tallahassee. from Pace, Fl by Ray
Comment: they make enough for what the ret of the wages are around here. Make more then I do. from gulf breeze by betsy
Comment: Teachers are certainly underpaid in this area for the time they put in. My son's kindergarten teacher worked several uncompensated hours every day to make sure that she offered the best for her students. She not only devoted a lot of hours but also countless money out of her own pocket to provide things for her classroom that the county could not provide. I know that dedicated teachers at all grade levels do the same. We could never pay them enough for the education that they provide for our kids, but I think increasing their pay should certainly be a priority. from Pace by Alison
Comment: As the cost of living continues to increase and funding for public school decreases, teachers are getting the short end of the stick. Not getting the step increases only makes things worse. Not only are teachers and their families suffering but the students are suffering as well. Teachers are less and less able to spend the extra money needed to buy supplies for the classroom. It is unacceptable! from Pensacola, Fl
Comment: Duh! That's a no brainer! Of course not! A more interesting question is if we believe school administrators in this area make too much money? by Pam
Comment: The question has no meaning without an adequate definition of "enough". Who actually believes they are paid "enough" for their work? Most teachers and those who hold teachers in high esteem will likely say "no, teachers are not paid enough", while those who believe that teachers work only a few months out of the year will likely say "yes, teachers are actually overpaid". A better question may be to ask if the board is in violation of its contract with the teachers. If the step increase is indeed guaranteed by the contract, then the board may very well be in violation of that contract. from Pace, FL by Linda
Comment: 51K for 9-months work isn't bad in my book. from Fort Walton Beach, fl by Randy
Comment: Absolutly not. Teachers put in many unpaid hours that includes not only planning, but grading, and calling parents, but making purchases out of their own salary. Yes, I am a teacher. from Crestview fl by Barbara
Comment: I saw your report and wonder: is the average salary in Okaloosa so much higher than in Escambia because of the percentage of more experienced teachers? I am beginning my 10th year of teaching and make about $41,079. I am glad to have a job, and don't expect a raise in this economic climate, but I don't like the public thinking that teachers in Okaloosa County are all making $51,000. from Niceville by Ellie
Comment: The average doesn't bother me as much as the pay of teachers with 20 plus years. The total yearly compensation for these teachers who basically teach the same thing year after year, is too much. To be fair to all teachers, I would have to see their pay scales in order to make very many meaningfully comments. from Pensacola, Fl. by Mason
Comment: Oh my gosh, when was the last time I heard ANY TEACHER OR ANYONE ELSE AS A MATTER OF FACT SAY -I JUST HAVE TOO MUCH MONEY--I DONT WANT ANY MORE.How much is enough? Pay now or pay later! from Pensacola,Florida by Flower
Comment: with that kind of compensation and two months off, yes from pns,fl. by john
Comment: I voted already but in reading comments from past "3-cents" questions, I just had to tell you, these would be a comic's paradise - you could get rich, channel 3!! from Pensacola, FL by Janice
Comment: I think at least the step increase as they spend a lot of "out of pocket" money for classrooms...... from Ft. Walton Bch by johnnie
Comment: no,because look at the number of kids failing.so look at it like thisare the kids not learning are the teachers not teaching the way they should. from pensacola by bill
Comment: you should get paid by perfomance, look at the number of kids not doing good in school. from pensacola by b.
Comment: I don't think that teachers (not administrators) could ever be paid too much. They are shaping our childrens lives, often having a more positive influence on them than their families do. They spend an inordinate amount of time (and often their own money) to provide for our children from Pace, Fl by Cindy
Comment: Teachers make plenty of money in the area. They are off for the summer and also have lots of other vacation days. They have better benefits than most people. No one should get a raise with the bad economy. They should be happy to have a job. We have lost students so we have too many teachers. from Pensacola by Tom
Comment: These people teach our CHILDREN .They are the future of our country. from milton fl by barbara
Comment: As a teacher who has only one income I rely on my step increase. I spend 100's of dollars a year of my own money to buy supplies, such as ink, hand sanatizer, tissues, and paper for my classroom. Already this summer I have attended 3 workshops for no pay to become a better teacher and this is how the school board compensates me. from Fort Walton Beach by Laura
Comment: I didn't know they made that much. from pensacola, fl by anthony
Comment: Okaloosa teachers may be the 4th highest paid in the state (even though they are the #1 school district with the most A's), but they are near the bottom in the country. from Crestview,Fl by Cathy
Comment: I have grown so tired of hearing teachers complain about being under-paid. Teachers in our area make an average of $42K per year for 9-10 months of work, well above the average of most other equally educated government workers. Teaching should be done by those who enjoy teaching and molding young minds, not those looking for a gravy train. from Cantonment, FL by Bill
Comment: My spouse works for Escambia School District as a paraprofessional and they were made to have asscociate degree which my spous already had and not far from becoming a teacher. They never rec the big pay raise even for paraprofessional's. The teachers here make nothing for the noble jobs they do and all they take from the children in their classes. It takes a special type of person to even be a teacher or paraprofessional. They all deserve better pay. from Pensacola, FL by Paula
Comment: There are limits on how much a teacher should be paid. from Milton by P
