Gay Adoption: Do you believe Florida's ban on gay adoptions is unconstitutional?

52.38% Yes
47.61% No

Comment: I just don't understand the backward thinking that still exists in 2009. Gays CAN foster but CAN'T adopt??? We need good homes for children. Period. Sexual preference in people WANTING to adopt a child should NOT be an issue. Period from Mobile/Alabama by Shar

Comment: YES. Gays should have the same rights as everyone else...just like blacks should have the same rights as whites. Florida needs to get with the times. God loves everyone! from Pensacola, Fl by Lanna

Comment: Any qualified applicant should be considered, regardless of sexual orientation. What other choice is there? from Pensacola by W

Comment: God is clear regarding marriage between a man and a woman. Life, with His blessing, can only be reproduced from a man and a woman. God's intention for a family is to begin with a man and a women as he clearly began our time with Adam (male) and Eve (female). from Pace, FL by L

Comment: With strict adoption qualifications I do think qualified individuals should be able to adopt, regardless of sexual orientation. If there are enough children needing to be placed in loving homes, then let the people willing to adopt have that option. from pensacola fl by Kevin

Comment: I am a lesbian and if someone told me, me and my girl couldn't adopt I'd be mad. Plus EVERYONE should have the chance for a child no matter what you are. from Crestview,FL by Holley

Comment: Absolutley this should be overturned. We can thank the likes of Anita Bryant and the Johns Committee for even being required to have this conversation! A loving home is a loving home and since gays/lesbians are able to be foster families for the most vulnerable of Florida's children what could be better than allowing permanent placement of these and other children? from Pensacola by Mindy

Comment: I believe every human being willing to, and capable of providing a home, education, love, and a family environment to a child should be given the right to adopt in Florida. from Pensacola - Florida by F.

Comment: I think gays and lesbians should be able to adopted children. They are people just like anyone eles. from pensacola fl by lianne

Comment: i believe gay adoption is fine! gays can not have there own children an i think just because the they like the same sex dont mean they cant have children and there are a lot of children needing home if gays were aloud to adopt then there would be less children needing help and homes. from pensacola florida by ashley

Comment: yes it should be allowed.quit being afraid of people you don't understand. get educated jerks, it is the year 2009. we aren;t perverts, we are more caring than so called "straight" people. your kids kill people !!!!!!! from loxley,al by kenny

Comment: Children should be in a home with a Mother & Father. from Pace/Fl. by Ferren

Comment: I believe children have enough to deal with as it is these days and we shouldn't willingly bring them into an unnatural way of life. from Milton by Barbara

Comment: Of course its unconstitutional! Most of us who are gay, bisexual , lesbian & transgender have straight parents. Putting children with gay parents will not make them gay, I promise. There are so many kids out there who need loving homes. There are plenty of straight parents who have no business being parents. A person's sexual orientation has nothing to do with their ability to parent children well. from Pensacola FL by scout

Comment: yes they should be able to--why is it ok to foster a child but not adopt one--thats wrong the kid gets attached to them and they get attached to the kid why not adopt if they already are fostering the child--some of us didnt choice to be gay it is what happened and if they want kids let them have kids i know some people that had 2 moms or 2 dads and they are fine so whats the problem from pensacol fl by karisa

Comment: It should not matter if a person is gay or not. It should only matter if they are good parents. from Pensacola, FL by Sarah

Comment: No way should homosexuals even be fostering children, much less adopting. We'll pay for pandering to people with this lifestyle--perhaps the process has already begun. Why do you think women and men have the physical attributes that they do--duh, it's for sex--it doesn't take a genius to figure that out! Men with men, women with women, that's against nature and against God above all. from Pensacola by Freda

Comment: these people aren't a family they are something that satan put together and why would a person want these to adopt a child, this is not a family in the eyes of GOD from fl by mark

Comment: I do not think gay people should adopt because it be hard on the children with peer pressure kids at school would make fun of them.It just not right.Kids are tough of time already just trying to grow up. from pensacola, fla by paul

Comment: Gay and lesbian behavior is abnormal behavior and children should not be exposed to it. from Cantonment, FL by Binnie

Comment: Unconstitutional or not it's wrong. It takes a man and woman to create a child and it takes a man and a woman to raise one. from Milton by Steve

Comment: What about later years when the children become sexually aware and know that their situation is not normal. They may be embarrased that they don't have a mother or a father like other children. There's more to think about than how the parents feel. The children and their future happiness needs to be studied by qualified professionals. It is not all about whether or not the gays are being discriminated against. from Pensacola,FL by Pat

Comment: If they can foster these children then yes they should be able to adopt

Comment: It's time for heterosexualism to stop. Just because someone is not heterosexual doesn't mean they have no integrity. from Loxley,Al by Floyd

Comment: no children, should ever be put into any homosexual environment.it would be immoral, and very unnatural,it will break down their mindset,as to what should be natural for them.two homos with boys,is a red flag. from milton, fl. by Raymond

Comment: It is unconstitutional. lets play this card. A couple gets married, has chidren then later its found one of the couples is gay. Is it only then its deemed wrong for that parent to be a parent any further? Who gets the children in a custody dispute lets say...automatically the hetro parent? is this 1809 or is it 2009? Whats in the best interest for the children. Love is love, gay or not. I am hetro, by the way and dont have my head up my butt like many do on the issue using sexual preferance as a guide to determine if you are a good parent or could be. from Pensacola,FL by Flower

Comment: HELL NO they don't need to adopt children!!!!!!!!!! from Pcola by Kim

Comment: good law from pensacola, fla by roland

Comment: Children are created from a man and a women. That is the way God and nature intended it to be. To allow homosexuals to adopt kids would not allow the kid the benifit of a man and women parent. from Pensacola, Fl. by Walter

Comment: Of course people that adopt will be happy and gay. However, queers should not be allowed to bring children into their sick lifestyle. from Milton, Fl by Paul

Comment: i am gay and it's has been a dream of mine to have kids, therefore i dont see the reason why gay's cannot adopt, we are still human beings!!! from pensacola by jon

Comment: i believe that the ban is very unconstitutional because anyone deserves to adopt, if a mother who has no partner can adopt then so can gays. It doesnt matter what your sexual prefrence is as long as that child is loved. from pensacola fl by christa

Comment: Unconstitutional? Yes and completely unconscionable as well. Let's see now, it's OK for anyone to become a natural parent, no matter how unprepared for parenthood, but someone who wants to adopt someone else's cast-off child is unfit? Outrageous! from Cantonment FL by Alice

Comment: I BELIEVE THAT THE STATE IS ULTIMATELY RESPONSIBLE FOR THE WELL-BEING OF THE CHILDREN IN THE STATE, AND A CHILD IS BEST RAISED BY BOTH A MOTHER AND A FATHER. from PENSACOLA, FL by ANONYMOUS

Comment: I don't believe kids should be around gay people. Sicko's from Pensacola by Regina

Comment: Gay and lesbians is against all nature. It is wrong. There is no way they can have children. So they want to take straight children and turn them against normal people. from Pensacola by Benson

Comment: I THINK GAYS SHOULD DO THERE THING IF THAT IS WHAT THEY WANT,BUT SHOULD NOT BE ABLE TO ADOPT OR FOSTER ANY CHILDREN. from PENSACOLA, FL. by JOHN

Comment: From the people I have seen in Okaloosa Country I would trust gay parents to do a much better job of raising their children than straight conversative parents. At least the child would know love existed in their life with gay parents. from Crestview/FL by Art

Comment: I do believe it is unconstitutional and I, being a gay woman think we should be allowed to marry, adopt and any & all rights that straight people have. We are people with rights too. from Elberta, Alabama by Cristina

Comment: Gay people are parents too..... from Ft. WAlton Bch,FL by jon

Comment: Sodomites are an aberation. there is nothing normal about homosexuality. Children need a normal environment. If the government feels its their constitutional responsability to protect its citizens then it must ban sodomite adoptions! from Pensacola, FL by Bill

Comment: Anyone who chooses to read the Bible will realize that God intended for a marraige to be between a man and woman; it stands to follow that any off-spring need be raised by that man and woman, not by some loner male or female for whatever reason refuses to enter a relationship with a member of the opposite gender. from Mary Esther, FL. by Tom

Comment: It's not right. Gay people/couples should have the same rights as everyone else, with adopting/having kids and getting married. from pensacola, fl by amanda

Comment: If you allow it, you defile the natural order that God has established for the family. from Pensacola, FL by Garrett

Comment: and they should not be fostering either,i agree with Arkansas from pensacola by shane

Comment: I don't believe an individuals sexual preference as anything do with how good of a parent they can be. There are so many children looking for good homes with loving parents. from Ft. Walton Beach, FL by Kathy

Comment: Homosexuality is an abomination to God – our Creator. Children should not have to live in a home where this abomination is practiced. It is wrong to place children in these living conditions. Being ‘politically correct’ in the world’s eyes will never make it right in God’s eyes. Homosexuality is wrong and those who practice it & those who support it will have to answer to God for this stand. Ready or not – we will HAVE to face a final judgment & that judge is God Himself. from Milton, FL by Carol

Comment: Discrimination based on sexual orientation is still discrimination and it is wrong. from Navarre, FL by John

Comment: this is ridiculous....like gays aren't even people from pensacola,fl by sam

Comment: There are way too many children in foster care for us not to allow a stable loving family to adopt the children. It shouldn't matter whether the couple/man/woman is hetero or homosexual as long as they can give stability and love to that child. from Pensacola, FL by Dorrian

Comment: HMMMMMMMMMM Let's see. If I am gay I can not adopt. If I am a child preditor on Megans list I can. If I have a loving relationship with a member of the same sex as I it is not possible for me to properly love and care for a child but if I attempt to molest a child that must prove that I have love to share with a child. This is going on right here in Pensacola. All these people that condon the ban are in my opinion condoning the abuse by the straight adopted parents and are as sick as they come. from Pensacola / Florida by Roger

Comment: Someone needs to explain to these people where children come from. It takes a man and a woman, not two men or two women to produce a child. That's God's plan. If they want to have children, let them do it the right way. No wonder the white population is declining in the US. from Pensacola, FL by Harold

Comment: this is ridicules...i'm not saying that i am pro or anit gay/lesbian but from a common sense approach, this ban is ridicules! this measure is strictly from a religious viewpoint. (this is why religion should not dictate ethics and morals in politics or in schools...) if this is the case and gays/lesbians are barred...then it is logical for them to say on the next level, people below a certain income level, educational level, singles, and certain religions cannot adopt also...? from p'cola fl by h

Comment: Since homosexuality is still an unnatural act--people who practice homosexuality should not be allowed to adopt or foster state children. from Cantonment, FL by Carolyn

Comment: I don't like the question. I'd prefer to let people do their own thing in private, but I'm concerned about the impact on the adoptees. I am not an attorney, so can't tell if the law is unconstitutional. from Pensacola / FL by Rick

Comment: I do not believe there is an ID card for sexual orientation. How would this even be enforced. I have first hand knowledge that sexual orientation has no bearing on a child except open there eyes to acceptance and understanding and to have open eyes to all types of individualism with less prejudice. from Pensaocla / FL by Guy

Comment: Yes I do think it is unconstitutional I pay the same about of taxes as the average heterosexual does but, yet I don't have the same rights. If we are going to be segerated for being gay then we need to be in a different tax bracket.. from pensacola fla by michelle

Comment: i do believe they should be able to. because there are so many kids out there with out parents and if the gay people are willing to give them a permanent home, why shouldn't have the right to. the constition say all people are created equal, gays are people to. from pensacola fl by noel

Comment: why not who gives us the right to play GOD from milton fl by sharon

Comment: Yes, they should be able to adopt. The fact that their sexuality is different then ours does not mean that they are lesser people than us or have a less potential to be good parents. from Pensacola by Sarah

Comment: Why the reference as 'gay people'? Is it also correct to say, "asian people, old people, poor people," etc.. from pensacola. fl by J

Comment: NO No No by Rhonda

Comment: it is unfair to exclude gay people from adopting. people like the Octomom and Britney Spears are a disgrace to parenting, and THEY are allowed to take on that role. many children are in need of love and support, and there is no reason to believe that gay people cannot provide that to those children. people need to stop thinking about themselves, and their opinions, and start thinking about the lives of the children. from pensacola fl by jennifer

Comment: Yes, Gay people SHOULD be able to adopt. There are many children who need a loving home no matter the sexual orientation of their parents. from Navarre, Fl by Elizabeth

Comment: Children want someone to love them and take care of them. Sexual orientation of the parents should not matter. from Pensacola by C

Comment: As a gay parent, I know first hand there is no prblems with children being raised by a gay couple. My children get the same benefits as other children. They have 2 loving parents in a loving home, getting the same discipline, and same opprotunities. from Pensacola. FL by Shay

Comment: I am a gay man who would make an excellent parent, if allowed to be. We are normal, even Chritian people, and the law is not fair or just. from Pensacola, FL by John

Comment: Sexual orientation has nothing to do with adoption.Gays are just as capable of raising well rounded children. from Pensacola Fl by Shelly

Comment: Our children have enough problems without adding the deception that this life stile is OK or natural. from Molino, FL by Leroy

Comment: The constitution is not the docuement we should be looking to for this. The Bible states that God made a man and a woman to join in marraige and then populate the earth. Gay couples are not a natural union and cannot have children. They chose this way of life and should accept the fact that they cannot have children. A child needs a mother and father to raise them the way God made them to be. from Niceville by Ward

Comment: being a gay man and a father, i feel most gay persons are more loving toward children than a lot of our hetro friends. from crestview, fl by sunny

Comment: Children need love, nurturing,a stable environment, regardless of the source. from pensacola,fl. by tony

Comment: I think it would be far more beneficial for children to have parents, ANY parents, than to be left in group homes or potentially unstable foster situations. Telling a couple they are unsuitable for parenting based on their sexual preference is unconstitutional. Period. The law should not be allowed to make such judgments over people. Instead, ANYONE who shows such necessary virtues expressed by good parents (such as love, compassion, responsibility, empathy, stability, etc.) should be allowed to take America's children off the streets and out of group homes and into a loving family. In this day and age where heterosexual couples and their high divorce rate have ruined the American family and the sanctity of marriage, conservative Americans need to open up their eyes and understand that every type of person on this earth is capable of loving the "right" way, no matter their gender, race, ethnic background, financial background and ESPECIALLY sexual preference. I would like to know why Florida law believes it is acceptable to allow homosexual couples to feed, care for and raise a child as foster parents, but that that child can never be able to call those parents mothers or fathers as a true, adoptive family. If it is in defense of the traditional American family or a mother, father, silblings and pets- well, again, I think the heterosexual divorce rate has killed that dream. from Milton, FL by Caitlin

Comment: Gays practices should be banned for the entire USA. God's wrath coming to this nation for allowing gays to be free to exist in this country by the laws this sick leaders of our country want be strong enough. Judgement will be swift. from Bradley, Alabama by Jeff

Comment: Children tend to emulate parent(s) as they grow into puberty; including their mannerisms. Thus the children are facing a tough sleigh ride all the way from middle school through high school. The parent(s) had better stock up on ice packs and bandages. from Pensacola, FL by Brian

Comment: yes i do because there are so many kids out there who needs someone to care for them , and why shouldn,t a gay couple or parent who can give them support havve that right to do so from andalusia, al. by wilbert

Comment: While gay couples may have the right to do what they choose to I think the children should not have to hurt or suffer because of them. I mean, if I was a children and my peers asked me about my mom and dad it would be not only embarrassing but would hurt me a lot to have to say that I don't have a dad I have two mom or I have two dads. Its bad enough that the children have to say that there there mom or dad don't live with them due to divorce. I had to deal with that when I was a child and believe me it hurt more than most people think. from Pensacola, Fl by Brian

Comment: children need good parents... from Pensacola Florida by Samantha

Comment: Yes Gay people should be allowed to adopt children. If you reviewed the child abuse cases you would see 85% of the abuse cases are so called "straight" people and couples. This law should never have been created and passed. The number of children who need good homes is overwhelming which is why a lot of kids wind up in bad homes. Good background checks is the answer and good supervision by the C&F services. A lot of abuse cases could have been prevented or stopped if C&F had done their jobs. from Niceville/FL by NightHawk

Comment: as with other issues, one must not confuse adults rights with child welfare. Children need a good start in life and being forced into a controversial minority group should not be the best we Floridians can do. from Milton / FL by John

Comment: I didn't know that Florida was the only state that bans gay adoption. I would have thought that the #1 racist state, Mississippi would have been the one, not the 2nd most racist/bigoted good old boy state! from Pensacola by John

Comment: Parents according to Gods word & there is no other word is one man & one woman for parents from Pensacola,Fl by Debbie
