Pensacola Beach Plan: Do you support the multi-million dollar plan to redevelop Pensacola Beach?
| 11.11% | Yes | |
| 88.88% | No |
Comment: Not for the cost. They want to make the Beach more pedestrian friendly, well it is already that way. The only thing they need to do is make a nice looking cross over. Not like what is in Gulf Breeze. The beach is slowly starting to look like Panama City Beach, but some on the board do not see that. And if they go ahead with this plan it will be one more step toward that. And the government wants us to be more fiscally responsible yet look at what they want to do, borrow more money to do this plan. And we all know where that money will come from. Plus if they bond out the bridge again, before paying it off from the first bond there will be no way to borrow money in case of any major fixes that might need to be done. Plus they have no plans for any fixes to this work when we have another hurricane. Just a bad idea all the way around. from Gulf Breeze, FL by Rachel
Comment: Your report indicated that the main concern for building an elevated roadway was to provide safe passage for foot traffic from the beach area to the boardwalk area. Couldn't that be accomplished for far less money by prviding elevated walkways for the pedestrians? Maybe we could use some more palm trees for shade in the main beach area and some kid friendly fountains and wading pools to rinse off in. from pen,fl by doug
Comment: I do not support the multi- million dollar plan. It is far too expensive and it is unnecessary. Keep the beach as accessible as possible, and contain future costs now by planning ahead, instead of taking on debt. Destin is a short drive away for those who care for that type of environment. Florida has too few beaches left with the natural beauty that Pensacola Beach retains. from Gulf Breeze by Lori
Comment: It is not needed and way to expensive, tourists want a laid back beach, what is with three roundabouts for one stop light Keep it as it is, Please no tolls, lets remove the toll gates from Pensacola Beach by Sue
Comment: Redevelop Florida beaches never turns out to be good. Look at South Florida.Keep the landrapers away from our beaches or they will be cvered in concrete and we won't be able to go to them in the end. Beaches should be free for all. from milton fl by dale
Comment: storms come and go in this area why spend more money on such a thing it like saying; everyone need to pay for the sand that nature will give or take crazy is as crazy does . The Indians knew , they didn't live on the beach Only visited and the went home from navarre fl. by laura
Comment: with the economy as bad as it is i do not think this is such a good idea at THIS time. unless this would put many people to work doing the work needed to be done. then it would be a win, win project. from pensacola by georgia
Comment: the beaches are messed up enuff already from pensacola, fla. by carolyn
Comment: NO... come on... leave the beach alone. Make a WALK OVER the road for pedestrians if you have to do something. NO increase on the Bridge Toll. Building more for hurricanes to destroy and SRIA track record is already no good. Zero out the Garcon Point bridge toll while you're at it. from pensacola, FL by denise
Comment: I think Pensacola Beach is well overdue on a makeover. This will attract more vacationers and improve the economy of this still hurricane stricken area. The $1 increase toll will be well worth it. by Megan
Comment: In my eyes the beach has become a shame. When I was a child there were huge dunes, and no condos or businesses except for a seven eleven. Now it is so commercialized they have riuned the nature of it. And they wonder why nature is trying to take back what was taken away from it by spending millions of dollars. It makes me sick what maney can distroy. Money talks and nature goes away. Shame on anyone involved in building big biuldings on the beach and destroying it's nature. I have no desire to ever go to the beach and do not care what they do to it anymore. The beach I know is gone for good. Atleast I have some great memories of it and what it looked like back then when I was a child that they can never take away. from Pensacola,FL by Michael
Comment: i believe that we need to spend the funds to grow the beach, we are losing more and more vacationers that bring their families and there is nothing for the kids to do, why not create something for actual families to do here. so people want to come to the beach, not just to drink and swim, lets make it for families from pensacola by bob
Comment: Pensacola Beach needs redeveloping. The traffic situation needs to be more pedestrian friendly. It is dangerous to cross the street and the parking is terrible. from Milton, FL by Lisa
Comment: I always pay my bills before I delve in a new deficit. I think city and county governments should practice the same thing. from Pensacola, Fl by Frank
Comment: Pensacola Beach is over developed period. I say lets get rid of the Santa Rosa Island Authority and save money. That area is glutted with wasteful spending and politics. from Pensacola,FL by Flower
Comment: Improvements are needed to make the public beach more pleasant and safe for visitors but this price tag seems a bit steep. And why elevate the road instead of a crosswalk for pedestrians? It's a beautiful plan, but a hurricane would certainly do so much damage, it might not be feasible to repair what was torn up. And the price for the local patrons to go out and spend the day at the beach would certainly go up. Just re-think this please. from Pensacola Fl by Lee
Comment: Not one dime should be spent on Pensacola beach until those freeloaders pay property taxes. They demand police & fire protection, roads & infrastructure such as street lighting but want mainlanders to pay for it....BS. by warren
Comment: Yes, it's needed to support Escambia County over the next decades. The plan is a vision, one that will be carried out in phases over time - as revenues allow. It is subject to change - as it is a high level look at the new downtown PB. Without it, the beach will slowly deteriorate and not attract the visitors and future residents to the area that everyone wants for economic growth. from Pensacola / FL by Rick
Comment: I do not live in Pensacola but what happens in one area can carry on to other areas so I say as long as the plans do not destroy the environment and there is free or low cost access to the beaches and nature paths it should be okay. But also an underground path can be a place of ambush and ilsocite(sp) conduct so the underground should have CCTV and regular beach patrols. from Niceville by NightHawk
Comment: I recommend we let the federal government pour all our money in the ocean since they are going to do it whether we like it or nor. from Ft. Walton Beach by Roger
Comment: Don't you get it yet? The beaches are a God-given resource, and as such can be taken back by God at anytime. So we go and pump millions of dollars every two or three years into a resource that will only take a hurricane minutes to destroy; or spring-breakers a matter of weeks. People we are laying off teachers and public servents because we don't have the money to pay them, DUH?!! If we keep expending funds where we have no business putting them, and turn around crying we aren't managing funds correctly, DUH, DUH? Think before we commit to something so expendable---are kids educations debatable too? Evidently they are, excuse me for giving my opinion. from Mary Esther, FL. by Tom
Comment: Let me guess the overpass will be called "Portofino overpass" and the roundabouts will be called "Rinke roundabouts". from Pensacola Beach, FL
Comment: It is going to take a whole lot of people crossing over to the quiet water side, or vice versa, to justify raising the roadway. Why not make a tunnel under the road, or an pedestrian overpass. I just can't see the value of the suggested improvement. If they want to build more high rises, that would be good, it might block some of the winds during a hurricane!!! from Pensacola by Rod
Comment: People will gladly pay five bucks bridge fare if the beach was as cool as that picture! If we charged 2 bucks to leave the beach, then more people would stay! We'll all have more bridge money when Obamacare passes, cause we can then cancel our private health insurance. Think, people! from East Hill by Mike
