Comment: We need to follow the Generals guidance, this is his area of expertise. from Pensacola by Timothy
Comment: I do support our troops; but as to a well-defined explanation of why we are there, well it got lost along with the Iraqi fiasco. But, while we are there, let's borrow one of Bill Sherman's plays from the Civil War, let's accidentally (on purpose) burn all the poppy fields over there. If we're there to 'teach' them, let's do it from scratch. from Mary Esther, Fl. by Tom
Comment: Should enter a battle to win and never, never OCCUPY A COUNTRY. This cost money and many, many lives. If you do'nt enter to win, do'nt do it. Histroy has proven this already. from Ft. Worth,Texas by Tom
Comment: Our involvement in Afghanistan is a carbon copy of the Vietnam fiasco - we have forgotten everything we ever learned there. The current methodology will almost certainly fail, and at enormous cost. We need a policy that allows us to leverage THEM; what we have now is the reverse. One deranged fanatic can pin down an entire company of our forces; we can't win a war that way. Petraeus is delusional about our "success" in Iraq. All Petraeus accomplished there, with his "surge," was an exit strategy, but only after the country was almost destroyed. One influence that is sorely lacking is an assessment of the enemy by psychologists and psychiatrists. Petraeus et. al. confuse "warriors" with sociopaths, which is what we are dealing with. If Wal*Mart were managed the same way that we are conducting the war, it would go broke. Indeed, the private sector is more willing to try different approaches, in a quest to arrive at the correct course of action. George Bush didn't do this, and, unfortunately, neither did the present Administration. John Sutton jssutton@cox.net 850-857-6646 from Pensacola, FL by John
Comment: We have no right to be there. The protection of our national security is within our borders. from Milton, Fl by Asya
Comment: Being a Retired Military MAN, and thinking of all wars, we need to have learned from Viet Nam. If we have the strongist Military in the World, lets proove it, and throw everything we have at them, and shut them down completely. Blitz it all. JR Bourke from pensacola,fl. by jr
Comment: This is not our war. It's been going on for hundreds of years and will go on for hundreds more. Enough already... Bring the troops home NOW and concentrate on our government issues, not theirs. from Pensacola, FL by T
Comment: Get out now!!!! These people are in the stone age and shall always be so. There is nothing we can do to help them become civilized. from Shalimar, FL by steve
Comment: You cant say the troop withdraw "plan" next July is going to take place. And in the next statement is " going to be based on conditions on the ground" It aready is dependant on "conditions on the ground" Bring them home but our President dont have a game plan with an end result. The Presidents plan if you will is his staff giving him information that will serve him personally and politically. And all the intentional mis-information along the way. 9 years---this war has gone on--can someone tell me who "planned the 9 year to date war" Might as well flip a coin- heads or tails- you would get more results instead of talk. I personally am glad Obama is a one time President. from Pensacola,FL by Flower
Comment: I support our country and our task to keep peace but I think our troops should come home and protect our borders. We have lost too many young soilders to war. from Pensacola, Fl. by Juanita
Comment: It's not even a real country. It has opium and really not much else. We teach history to not repeat mistakes and where did venturing into Afghanistan get the Russians? from Cantonment, FL by Carolyn
Comment: Our troops would rather fight them over their then help clean up after an attack over here. from Mary Esther, FL by Mike
Comment: We can not win this war. We are not fighting a country with a dangerous political agenda, we are fighting a religious ideology that has survived thousands of years. I don't see how we can win a war like this. I agree that we need to withdraw but it must be done in such a way that it does not put our Troops in more danger than necessary and should be done as soon as possible. from Pensacola, FL by Kathy
Comment: I support the troops in Afghanistan, they need the support of all Americans. from Pensacola, FL by AJ
