Drilling Moratorium: Do you support a six month moratorium on deepwater drilling in the Gulf?

40% Yes
60% No

Comment: uhmmm...is that enough time to determine if those wells are safe???? from p'cola fl by h

Comment: Continue the moratoriun only on B.P. from Pensacola, FL by Ronald

Comment: b.p. screwed up. they will pay.30% of our oil comes from the gulf. from pensacola fl by hiram

Comment: in fact, i would support a ruling that NO wells could ever open in the Gulf and the old ones be permanently dismantled. no exceptions!!! i think drilling in our Gulf is one of the worst environmental sabbotages ever done. from pensacola by georgia

Comment: Don't drill tell you find why the spill from Gulf Shores, AL by John

Comment: Not only 6 mths I want to see a Total Ban of Deep Water Driling. Have we learned nothing!!!!!!!!!! from FL by Kathy

Comment: We need the oil and the workers need their jobs but there should be safety measures to prevent another disaster such as what we now have in the Gulf. Six months is a long time to shut down production. The wells should never have been allowed to put into operation in the first place. Another "buyoff" by our government? from Pensacola, FL by Mary Ann

Comment: It's a jobs killer. from Crestview FL by Fred

Comment: all drilling in gulf should be stopped. its all about money. very poor judgement. from gulf breeze fl by william

Comment: Another knee jerk reaction by the Obama administration with no thought or care of consequences. from Fairhope/AL by L.

Comment: The Oil Companies don't seem to have their safety plans in order or know if the well are safe. from Gulf Breeze, Fl by Ron

Comment: NO! There are 20 to 30,000 jobs being held up because Obama wants to be a ruler and tell us and other countries how to live. I am sick of him and all his little helpers in Washington. People blame BP, but it was our U.S. Government that gave the approval for BP's drilling plan. from Pensacola by Michelle

Comment: Easy to say "shut em down" when you don't make your living as oilfield trash.Tighter oversight is definitely needed throughout the industry. The tree huggers need to be a little more realistic about where they can drill for crude...this did'nt have to happen the way it did..plenty of blame to go around. from Pace Fla by Warren

Comment: We should do whatever Barrack Obama say do. These raciss need to let him rule the country like he want. If gas go up he need to give us gas cards like the ebt cards. Poor folks need help? from New Orleans by Leroy

Comment: THE MORATORIUM IS TEMPORARY, DYING ON ANOTHER POSSIBLE RIG RELATED EXPLOSION WOULD BE PERMANENT. The moratorium is the LEAST the federal government can do. The corruption of our legal systems by criminal corporations (BP, Monsanto...)at local, state & federal levels is a disgrace to all voting aged Americans. How much more will we lose (wildlife, wild places) as a society, a culture... as a species, before we get it? DESTRUCTIVE, DEADLY & DIRTY FOSSIL FUELS ARE NOT THE ANSWER! from Pensacola by Julie

Comment: How many THOUSAND drilling platforms out there... and one catastrophe? If the government oversight agency had been doing its job, even this one would not have happened. from Pensacola, FL by Joe

Comment: Too little regulation of an outlaw industry from Pensacola, FL by David

Comment: No--I don't support a blanket drilling ban/moritorium; with that said, I do agree that no 'new drilling' need be started for awhile. The drilling in progress at the time of the catastrophe should be allowed to progress, because it don't take a PhD to figure out all that is being accomplished is an unneeded increase in unemployment. How many people are being forced out of a job because of this decesion? The people that choose to work on those rigs KNOW the risks involved before accepting employment, if not, shame on them. But then again, in this country, especially, MONEY TALKS. from Mary Esther, FL. by Tom

Comment: Ha! Like that will help undo what is done. Stupid opinion polls. You want to hear something that really relates? The easiest way to get me to turn off your news broadcast is for you to give Obama another outlet for his falsehoods. I don't want to hear them. Now you and others may associate a term like "prez." with this man, but I have several other more appropriate terms that suit him better. By the way, I am not even sure there is such a thing as a Puckerface, but if there is, he's it. To spare my wife, please do not give out my name. from Pensacola, Florida by Donald

Comment: Drill baby drill! from Theodore,AL by Ted

Comment: evendently we do not know enough to drill without risk to our enviroment, we have gotten by without deep water drilling for many years, lets envestigate first, please from milton fl by beverly

Comment: If this is what it takes to keep disasters like this from happening then go for it but make sure changes are made. BP should put displaced oil rig workers to work on clean up at the same rate of pey as on the rigs. from al by angela

Comment: No drilling ever in Gulf of Mexico....its too small!!! from Navarre, Florida by Susan

Comment: no there are enought people out of work over this, i feel put the guys back to work, by this you have an extra 2000 at least people out of work check one system at a time for safty. did they shut all the coal mines down for an accident no, did they stop selling guns no, do they still sell cigerettes? from pensacola fl by pam

Comment: As bad as this spill is, in my opinion, the ones to blame is MMS for not inspecting properly. Shell, Exxon and other oil companies that are drilling should not be punished for something that BP did. The blame lies on the government agency that did not do it's job. Independent inspections of all drilling rigs should be made and if deemed safe and all safety procedures are in place, they should be allowed to continue drilling. from Destin, Fl by Wayne

Comment: I know it will cost people some jobs, but look what deep water drilling has done to us already. There is more damage from HAVING it, than NOT having it. We need to stop deep water drilling. I would like to see no drilling off Florida State waters from Crestview, Fl by Karen

Comment: No more deep water drilling - period! from Niceville, FL by Fred

Comment: If we are willing to pay $6.00 plus per gallon of gas we can shut down all oil drilling and pumping in sensitive areas. Drilling is not the problem. Want to get something done, stop oil production in the gulf until ALL the safety systems are operationally tested and inspected. The inspection requirements for these wells should be no more lax than those of a nuclear plant! After all aren't we going to feel the repercussions of this tragedy for decades. from Crestview Florida by Robert

Comment: For the jobs and the progress for the area, keep drilling. from Elberta, Al by Gary

Comment: Let them drill. If you want to stop the drilling, get alternitive power or drill in our vast North West where we have more oil available than the rest of the world put together. Maybe our big oil companies have a deal going. After all, how much can they make if gas is only $1.00 a gallon. from Pensacola, Fl. by Frank

Comment: sIt'll put too many people our of work. Yes, we need new regulations and over sight. But dont cripple the industry. from Pensacola by Tim

Comment: To stop drilling would put the final deadly shot into our economy. from Pace, FL by Sandra

Comment: Yes, I agree they should take some time to review the situation. Off subject, I'm a little irritated that your news crew felt it necessary to talk about the blue angel's air show, Lindsey Lohan's court date results, and Lebron James, but you failed to even comment on the fact that a Coast Guard 6017 went down off the washington coast, and 3 of the 4 members were killed. from Pensacola, Fl by Melissa

Comment: Tough call! Initially, I would have said continue to drill because men and women need occupations to support their families. However, I've had a change of opinion simply because we haven't and don't know when we will be able to stop the present oil disaster. Until this disaster is fixed and we're pretty sure like oil platforms are safe for operation, deep water drilling should cease. Makes no sense to drill if you have fake or unreliable plans to stop these ocean-oil-gushers. So, yes a moratorium should be affixed. from Navarre, Fl by HB

Comment: I don't get it. When there is a commercial airplane crash, they don't shut down all airlines untill they can "study" what happened. I feel this decision was made in an attempt to appease people that it doesn't even effect, instead of making a decision based on the economic impact and lively hoods of the people it does. from Destin, FL by Marilyn

Comment: NO! Human errors by BP personnel and management on the failed well does not mean we should shut down the best domestic source of energy over the next 2 decades. Yes, we need to increase oversight on deep water drilling, but to throw the baby out with the bath water is simply deepening the U.S. economic malaise and insuring a lower standard of living for all Americans. from Pensacola / FL by Rick

Comment: I dont and so says the appeals court. I guess some people want the law followed only when it suits them politically. Mr. President your odd man out on this one. Bad call sir. from Pensacola,FL by Carl

Comment: we need to switch to renewable energy we can not afford another incident from Pensacola by Calvin

Comment: We need to keep drilling on our own continent. We just need stiffer requirements that our foreign countries have. The further we have to go to get the oil the higher oor fees will be. from pace by Donna

Comment: well it is highly apparent that you cannot trust the oil companies...this moratorium just might be needed to determine if those other wells have the safety measures in place and is able to operate safely...i got a funny feeling that they do not... from p'cola fl by h

Comment: I have watched, with great interest what has happened in our Gulf since the BP oil spill. I believe that it is not in our best interest locally to our ecology, economy or mental well being to have oil wells in our Gulf that can't be humanly reached in a time of disaster.I also believe that disasters like this have far reaching effects, whether its ecological, and we move turtles to the east coast,or economical and businesses are closing, and jobs are being cut, or even mentally where your concern is your next meal and how will I pay my mortgage or rent. These events and their long range effects will be seen, some in our lifetime others maybe not; therefore it is our responsibility as the only species that can analize possibilities to think very carefully before we allow our politians or anyone to saddle us with these responsibilities. This well and all others like it should never have been built without definite workable tried and true plans to be used in an event of disaster, sush as we are experiencing right now in our own backyard. I reiterate that I'm not against oil wells in our gulf, but I am most deffinitely against it not being humanly possible to get to them to do necessary or emergency repairs. from FWB, FL by Diane

Comment: Current administration is refusing to ge correct aid for oil spill to push Presdent Obama'a personal agend. from Navarre by A

Comment: I am affected by this moratorium. I am trying to build a house but don't want to build one if my husband is out of a job. from Clarksburg, WV by Marcy

Comment: I support safe common sense offshore drilling. If the regulators did their job enforcing, this incident and others could have been avoided. Go back to the BP fatal explosion in Texas of 2005. The same regulators overlooked safety then. from Pensacola by Cedric

Comment: No. I do not support a moratorium on deepwater drilling in the Gulf. There are men with families who depend on the jobs provided by these wells. What I do support is safety measures that will prevent future disasters such as this one. It is unfathomable that the safety such as has been displayed in this instance has been completely ignored. This should have never have happpened. Whoever is responsible for the lack of safety cut-off valves and the neesssary safety features should be persecuted to the fullest and be held responsible for the loss of lives of those working on the rigs. from Pensacola, FL by Mary Ann

Comment: No! Put those people back to work. Obama is a Communist Nut trying to bankrupt the U.S. and could care less about our livelyhood. by Angie

Comment: with 5000 capped wells why drill more, when is enough from navarre, fl by thomas

Comment: Why has there been no unemployment ext. to the oil affected areas? And if buisness are goind down so is job opertunities. And how come the news is not asking why. And shoul not bp be liable for it. from pensacola fl by carl

Comment: I think we need to understand what went wrong and how to prevent it. And not blindly continuing to drill. If we don't take time learn from this mistake we will most likely will repeat it. from Gulf Breeze,Fl. by Ben

Comment: While I understand the need to make sure the oil rigs are able to operate safely, the ecenomic impact will be devastating to the Gulf Coast. The economy has put many of us in a position we wouldn't be able to recover from even one missed pay check, much less 6 months of them! from Pensacola, Fl by Tina

Comment: After what happened I say NO i dont need OIL i would walk to work than destroyed the beaches and people should just stay away from the beach so they can clean it up the oil im tired of people lie to get bussness and money clean up the oil first from navarre FL by heather

Comment: This would totally cause a collapse of the gulf coast economy, begin gas rationing, and large gas price increases at a time when we can least afford it. It would also cause a large drain on the countries economy by causing a large outflow of cast to the OPEC nations. This would be like we were funding the very terrorism we are fighting against. from Pace/ FL by Ron

Comment: We need oil! This was one well that had a problem and to stop drilling is just absurd... from Pensacola by Brad

Comment: I do, but only because of the disaster that we have already had. If this can be prevented from happening again thin I would say no due to the dire straights that the fishermen are in. My prayers go out to them and their families. I do wonder however, what are they doing with all the oil that is gotten up with the boom. How are they disposing of it? from Pns, Fl by Wanda

Comment: We need to keep people working and not being laid off because of something that might happen. from Atmore Alabama by Betty

Comment: I support a permanent moratorium on deep water wells. Obviously they cannot be drilled safely. from Pensacola/FL by James

Comment: Deep water, yes. Shallow to normal water, no. from Pensacola/FL by K

Comment: forget the harm to any oil company or their employees, the harm done to the environment is much greater. from Niceville, Fl by Theresa

Comment: A moratorium would only continue the devastation to our Gulf states and our ecomonies. If this is what the President wants, then he is helping plan the demise of life as we know it on the Gulf. from Pensacola, FL by Margaret

Comment: People need to go back to work. Attorney General Eric Holder came here today. That worries me more. He just let 10 Russian Spies go that had been watched for two years. He also turned Black Panthers loose that had been caught on tape armed with a weapon harassing people at the voting polls in 2008. What is he doing here? He was talking about BP being criminals and fineing them. People got to BP quick and get what they owe you for the government is here to fine BP for everything they have so they, the government can waste their money and you can do without. Eric Holder is sueing Arizona for protecting their border. He is an idiot. from Pensacola by Shella

Comment: No way to many jobs will be lost.. from niceville fl

Comment: stop ruining florida beaches and wildlife from pensacola by billy

Comment: I DO support stringent requirements for BOPs, but not this job-killing moratorium. One must remember that, tragic as this accident is, many thousands of wells have been drilled and operated safely in the Gulf for over 50 years. from Pensacola, FL by Barney

Comment: Must have safety on these rigs with 3rd party inspectors, then, and I'm against the deep water drilling, only then resume drilling for economic reasons--can't kill an industry, no matter how egregious the coruption and averice, overnight. Impact would creates more problems. Secure and verify safety, then proceed. from Pensacola, FL by MarDee

Comment: This moratorium will only keep people in this recession out of work. This would also raise prices on a already over priced energy source thus hurting the economy. It's a catch 22 from Lillian by Bill

Comment: I think it was a show of disrespect by WEAR this morning to cut off the President during his News Conference in reference to the Oil Spill Recovery. After WEAR tuned the President, and resume the Rachel Ray Show I turned to channel 10 FOX, and the President was this giving a live News Conference on the Oil Spill Recovery, and entertaing questions from the news media. from Navarree, Florida 32566 by Phillip IV.

Comment: Two words: DEEPWATER HORIZON!!! from Milton, FL by Jennifer

Comment: Should we stop flying because there are more air plane crashes then there are oil spills? One AP crash kills more people than have died from oil accidents. from navarre, Fl by robert

Comment: Please don't kill any more jobs by banning drilling. from Fort Walton by herman

Comment: jobs, jobs, jobs. from milton/fl by david

Comment: I support a permanent ban on deepwater drilling, on drilling off of Florida, and I support a moratorium on all drilling until ACTUAL safety measures are in place. I fully support a switch from fossil fuels to clean energy sources NOW! from Pensacola FL by Lisa

Comment: Too many are out of work. from Navarre, Fl. by C J

Comment: It's all about regulation, regulation, regulation and making them do what is right before something happens! from Pensacola, FL by Rob

Comment: we need jobs, not politics from franklin la by jimmy

Comment: No drilling should continue until we examine what went wrong with Deep Water Horizon. MMS needs house cleaning so it can actually regulate big oil to protect our interests. We have no additional resources to send if a second incident were to occur - they are all deployed on this catastrophe. Yes, jobs will be impacted - jobs that kill, that damage health, that aren't safe. We have to stop compromising. Nothing will change without sacrifice. We need clean energy jobs now - the sunbelt should lead the way in solar energy development and the people out of work should get the first jobs. They should be transitioned and sustained. from Pensacola, FL by Ann
