ESCAMBIA COUNTY - Both candidates for Escambia County Sheriff are speaking out about some negative campaign flyers.

Flyers have been turning up in local mailboxes and on cars at a Pensacola Walmart parking lot.

They include bullet points that slam Republican Candidate David Morgan, personally and professionally.

Morgan believes his opponent has some connection to the person who sent them out.

But Democratic Candidate Larry Scapecchi says he had nothing to do with them.

Scapecchi believes the flyers originated from a supporter of current sheriff, Ron Mcnesby, who lost to Morgan in the primary.

He says he's appalled by the flyers and won't engage in that kind of negative campaigning.

Larry Scapecchi/(D) Escambia Sheriff Candidate: "Escambia County needs to get away from this kind of activity and these kinds of politics, but this was so damaging personally that it's just not acceptable."

David Morgan/(R) Escambia Sheriff Candidate: "I've noticed since the primary the campaign sadly has taken an ugly turn and I've told all of my folks we would never attack a candidate personally, we'd never bring their family into it and that's why again we finally decided to protest this."

Morgan filed a report with the Pensacola Police over the flyers.

The State Attorney's Office is now reviewing that report to determine if the flyers violate a state statute regarding corruptly influencing voting.
