US - Auto giants are unveiling new electric vehicles at the Paris Auto Show this week...

As Jim Boulden tells us these lean mean green machines should be ready for the road by 2010

Forget about hybrids.. most automaker have at least one...

Now, its all about electric cars at the Paris Motor Show...General Motors has gotten a lot of buzz for its brand new tiny car - The Volt. Which can go for 40 miles on one charge. Unlike the Toyota Prius. The Volt relies solely on an electric motor which can be plugged in at home.. or recharged using fuel.

Chrysler surprised the market last month by unveiling its own electric cars..Nissan fell behind its Japanese rivals in the hybrid battle.. so its array of electric-only corporate auto fleet announcements has caught the headlines... Along with those from Toyota.

Each company promises its electric vehicles will available starting in 2010. The big car makers are also thinking small to survive...GM has already unveiled plans for its compact global car...

The new Chevy Cruze.. and GM says it wont be cheaply made or priced.. as America's big two import from their European arms the notion that small cars with high gas mileage can be profitable.

So what we are seeing in the Chevy Cruz and what we will see in the upcoming Ford Focus for 2011 are compact sedans that are truly the equal of anything made in the world. And that's something new for GM and Ford in the U-S market.

If you believe the hype.. the debut of a proto-type of the Cruze could steal the Paris Motor Show...Because the plan is for the Cruze to be on sale in Europe and Asia a full year before Americans get to drive it.

Of course this auto show comes at a time of this credit crunch and this global economic crisis, even more reasons automakers are keen on showing off all new wears however many will be asked here who can afford to buy these new vehicles? Paris Auto Show Debuts Electric Cars
