OKALOOSA COUNTY -- They're trained to win wars, but sometimes Army Rangers need to know how to be rescued.

That's why the Army Rangers based on the Eglin Reservation took part in this mass casualty drill Thursday morning.

The Rangers were joined by military and civilian rescue teams.

Ranger leaders say this rescue training can be used in many different situations.

Larry Perino, with the U.S. Rangers said, "Similar situations, similar types of injury occur in the real world, in Afghanistan... helicopter crashes, fire fights. When you have to deal with a multitude of casualties that you have to treat, asses and evacuate."

This annual training was started in response to a 1995 incident.

That's when four Ranger candidates died from hypothermia.Ranger Mass Casualty Drill
