ESCAMBIA COUNTY - Several local churches and organizations are teaming up with the State Department Of Elder Affairs to come up with a new way to help local seniors.

The pilot program, called "Communities For A Lifetime" is being tested in Pensacola and it could expand to the rest of the state.

In a time of budget cuts across the state, the idea is to combine resources to provide more services to seniors through their churches.

The State Secretary Of Elder Affairs says they're using an old concept to make it work.

E. DOUGLAS BEACH/SECRETARY, ELDER AFFAIRS 6:36 "It's just what we used to have in communities a long time ago where people would talk alot in the neighborhoods and get to know each other through their churches and do what was best. We're revisiting our roots essentially."

Representatives from about fifty churches and forty community organizations from both Escambia And Santa Rosa Counties were at today's meeting.Elder Affairs (Communities For A Lifetime)
