SANTA ROSA COUNTY - In Santa Rosa County, the American Legion Post 78 opened it's doors to those in need.

The Veterans Affairs Administration donated brand new military issued items so volunteers at the post could give them to local vets.

They had first pick of sleeping bags, clothes, and blankets.

Afterwards, the homeless and others in need were able to stock up on items to stay warm.

Tom Griffith/Post Commander: "We thought it was important to do this before Thanksgiving. We could have waited another week and had more time to get the word out, but with Thanksgiving coming up, it's time to do that. Like I told somebody yesterday, our country's better than this. We shouldn't have people living under bridges."

The post commander says their goal is to give away everything in this room...So what wasn't picked up today, will be donated to local churches, shelters, and V-A hospitals.American Legion Cold Weather Gear For Homeless and Veterans
